If you're tailgating me... (mild rant)

... I usually won’t do anything.

Kinja'd!!!

Oh and of course it was an RX 350. Looked almost exactly like this.

But If I’m doing the speed limit, and you’re swerving like a maniac behind me while on the phone, and then start to honk, you need your license taken away. You shouldn’t even be trusted with a bicycle. The road was narrow, bumpy and borders a lake. Why should I go faster than the limit? So dear RX350 guy, I hope you don’t reproduce.

Kinja'd!!!

Road in question is Blue Lake Drive as seen in this screenshot from Google maps.

Anyway.... That’s my rant. I’m done now.

RX-driving douchebags far outnumber the BMW-driving douchebags in my experience.

Well, they sold more RX’s

Yeah. Everyone harps on BMW drivers, but it’s basically everybody but BMW and Audi drivers in my experience as well.

I mean, 35mph is an intolerably low speed in pretty much all conditions, but there’s still zero justification for tailgating someone who doesn’t have the ability to move over into the nonexistent right lane. When was the last time a slow driver sped up because they were being tailgated? Never, so why do people bother?

Whenever I’m in Mr. RX350's shoes, I leave a big following distance until there’s a decent straightaway with no oncoming traffic and just illegally overtake.

I tend to think that 35 isn’t that bad.

Maybe it’s just me, but I always feel like my cars have been geared to cruise at 10mph increments. 30mph = 3rd gear. 40mph = 4th gear, etc. Trying to cruise at 35mph puts me in that awkward stage where I’m itching to change to 4th, but know it’ll be too high of a gear if I encounter an uphill stretch.

Fuck with them. Slow down, speed up. If they still do it and it bothers you, pull over and let ‘em pass if you can

Eh. The 4Runner feels fine at any 5 mph increment.

I probably would have pulled over so I didn’t have to look at his fat face in my mirror, but the road borders a lake, so no pull over space.

Use your wiper jets, if you’re going fast enough, they’ll spray the car behind you.

Bizarre irony. I was tailgating an RX on the way into work tonight. He was doing between 15-20 in a 30 though. Steady stream of oncoming traffic and slightly dubious swerving of said RX meant an overtake took way longer than it should have.

Yeah, it’s a problem. In CA you are pretty much doing 70/75 anyway and then they ride your ass when you can’t go faster because there are other cars in front of you... so they are dumbasses. I just have to brake check them. Like the two miles leading up to the Golden Gate bridge, it’s a long tight climb up the hill to the top and then you have a tunnel so most people are skittish and and you can’t change lanes and the annoying people in the fast lane decide they want to slow down. Cue the lunatic who wants everyone to go faster, nowhere to go dude! I hate having to work because it means I have to go on the road when these fuckers are going to work.

every so often i’ll be flying down the back roads, and ill come up on somebody puttering along, and i think to myself “why is this guy going SO slow?” then i remember oh yeah, hes going the speed limit, so i slow up and give the guy some room. and there is nowhere to pass.

35 needs an orange triangle

j/k

Right. Because 35 is unreasonable on a thin road with a wall on one side and a lake on the other with lots of potholes.

nothing wrong with cruising slow over the rough stuff. keeps things from falling apart quicker, especially if you plan to own the stuff for the long run.

there is definitely something to be said for the truck that just keeps working.

It’s not that old and doesn’t sound bad over the small bumps, but big ones, and the whole thing rattles.

i have had friends that were hard on cars, and they could beat the life out of a VERY well maintained car within about a month or two. struts and shocks would be falling out, and death rattles going down driveways. my slow driven junk puttered past at least six of his.

EVERY time he’d get another car, id look at it and think to myself “this is as nice as it will ever be until it dies”

a well treated truck is worth treating well

Why do so many people feel the urge to “fuck with them”? The person is clearly messed up, running late, angry, etc. No, it does not justify their tailgating but slowing down will not help anyone at all. It will just make them more temperamental and they might end up doing something stupid that bites you in the ass as well.

Just keep doing your speed and let them figure their own shit out. I do like the suggestion of letting them pass.

RX drivers have a habit of driving WAY too fast on straight roads, then WAY to slow on twisty roads, if you would've led him onto Sicard Hollow, you would've lost him/her.
